I am getting the following error while installing the DNN

Access to the path '..\web.config' is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

I Set the permissions properly for the directory but getting this error continously.

I am quite tired due to this error.

I am using the Windows Server 2003 (with share point services installed) and SQL Server 2005

Any response will be of great value.

babar_jvd you need to give your NETWROK SERVICE account read, write and modify Control of the virtual root of your website.  To do this you should be able to right click on your web site's root folder, click on sharing and security, click the sercurity tab and setup security settings for your network service user.

I'm getting this same error.  My NETWORK SERVICE account is no where to be found on the data drive that I'm trying to install DNN on.  However, the NETWORK SERVICE account is available on the C drive.  How can I get to it from the E drive when it doesn't exist?   This seems to be the only thing standing in my way of installing DNN.  HELP!!!

Yes - I received this error on one of my installations:

"DotNetNuke Configuration Error
Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\DotNetNuke\DotNetNuke334
\Config\Backup_2007625144\web_.config'.Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)
\DotNetNuke\DotNetNuke334\web.config' is denied.
DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require
custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.
Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click
the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows
XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab.
Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.
If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your
website
If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of
the virtual root of your website"

After ensuring that full permissions were given to my NETWORK SERVICE account I started checking others and found that my USERS account did not have full permissions set. I set the permissions on the USERS account and the installation went smoothly.

Good luck,

Mike

I have done all the permissions settings previously. But I repeat the whole process again for my satisfaction. I assign all the required rights to the "Network Service" user. Even I make this user the owner of this folder and still getting the same error.

As I mentioned in my Initial Post that I have installed the SharePoint services also on this server and I am using WINDOWS SERVER 2003 and SQL SERVER 2005.

Thankyou for your response. But still waiting for somenone that can help me to figure out this problem.

I think there is some issue with network service user permissions, because the OS is not allowing this user the desired permissions.

I also have checked by deploying the application on the different drives and in the wwwroot folder also.
