If you put this code in your skin, it should do what you want:

<script runat="server">
    Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
        If DotNetNuke.Security.PortalSecurity.IsInRole(PortalSettings.AdministratorRoleName) Then
            dnnMENU.Visible = True
        Else
            dnnMENU.Visible = False
        End If
    End Sub
</script>

Very nice tip.

I'm working on a seperate menu created in Macromedia Fireworks 8 but I'm having a problem with the links to the images.  For the most part it works but when you click register or login then it all gets messed up.
I've stuffed it all into an ascx file and In the code I'm using "../../../Portals/_default/Skins/xpert-Yellow/menu_bar/images/btn_about_f2.gif" because it's the only way that I could get it to work.  I did try "~/Portals...." but it doesn't work at all for me.

See it here  www.experthardware.ie

Any ideas?

Hi Nossie,

I think the magic variable you are looking for is <%= SkinPath %>.

You can find more tips along the same lines here:

Hi John.

Can you put that into a sentence for me please? ;)

I'm getting this error  "Could Not Load Skin: /Portals/_default/Skins/xpert-Yellow/Horizontal Menu - Fixed Width.ascx Error: C:\Inetpub\vhosts\experthardware.ie\httpdocs\Portals\_default\Skins\xpert-Yellow\menu_bar.ascx(138): error BC30451: Name 'SkinPath' is not declared."

when I replace

src="../../../Portals/_default/Skins/xpert-Yellow/menu_bar/images/btn_home.gif"

with

src=<%= SkinPath %>"menu_bar/images/btn_home.gif"

This code is in my menu_bar.ascx which then appears on the slightly modified supplied Horizontal_Menu_Fixed_Width.ascx

Ray.

You need to place the skinpath variable inside the quote src="<skinpathvariable>directory/subdirectory/image"

Nope still not happening for me? what am I missing? Can I expect that writing "<img src="<%=SkinPath%> /xpert-Yellow/menu_bar/images/spacer.gif" in my  ascx will magically poplulate itself or do I need to create this variable in the code behind?

Your help is appreciated!
