As you all know the checkout process is not very effeciant in that you have to register with your address, etc. then you are asked again for address info.

Has anyone successfully streamlined this process? e.g. performing registration on the checkout page? What are the issues/problems associated with doing this.

I don't want to go down a road that has been unsuccessfully tried before.

Thanks, Justin.

I haven't performed registration on the checkout page (that still occurs when you view your basket and click the "login or register to checkout" link), but I have streamlined the process.

Firstly, I disabled all field execpt name, username and email address as a requirement for signing up to the portal.  Then I removed the options for adding a new address/using an existing address from the shipping provider control.

Next, I simplified the options for "use same shipping address" by only giving the option to use the same or a different shipping address.

Then you'll probably want to streamline the options available from the basket by removing the ability to add addresses, etc.

The approach I've taken means that if someone returns to the store then they have to enter their address again, but this is common with most commerce sites anyway and could be upgraded in the future.

You can see the streamlined changes I've made here http://www.retropack.co.uk (though don't complete your order as it's a live production site!).
