I've been paying for hosting through 1and1.com for 4 months now and finally decided to install DNN on it... only it's not installing.  Anybody have any advice here?  This isn't an upgrade, it's a fresh install.  No idea why it won't work.  I can post more sections of the web.config if needed.  Thanks in advance for any help.

The error:

[ArgumentException: Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.]
   System.Data.Common.DBConnectionString.GetKeyValuePair(Char[] connectionString, Int32 currentPosition, String& key, Char[] valuebuf, Int32& vallength, Boolean& isempty) +942
   System.Data.Common.DBConnectionString.ParseInternal(Char[] connectionString, UdlSupport checkForUdl, NameValuePair& keychain) +116
   System.Data.Common.DBConnectionString..ctor(String connectionString, UdlSupport checkForUdl) +114
   System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionString..ctor(String connectionString) +13
   System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionString.ParseString(String connectionString) +96
   System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.set_ConnectionString(String value) +11
   System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection..ctor(String connectionString) +158
   DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteADOScript(String SQL) +29
   DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteScript(String Script, Boolean UseTransactions) +742
   DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteScript(String Script) +6
   DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.GetProviderPath() +203
   DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.GetUpgradeStatus() +66
   DotNetNuke.Common.Global.CheckVersion() +103
   DotNetNuke.Common.Global.Application_Start(Object Sender, EventArgs E) +320

The part of my Web.config file I think is causing the error:

<appSettings>

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=mssql01.1and1.com;Database=XXXX;uid=XXXX;pwd=XXXX;" />

<add key="MachineValidationKey" value="XXXX" />

<add key="MachineDecryptionKey" value="XXXX" />

<add key="MachineValidationMode" value="SHA1" />

I hate to tell you this but it will absolutely not work.

I used 1and1 for several years and decided to install DNN on my Developer plan with no luck.

I spent hours and hours on the phone with 3rd level techs who claim that it will work.  Bottom line it won't.

If you read 1and1's FAQ's you will see a contradiction.  One section explains that only standard web.config file settings will be processed and all others will be ignored.  Another explains that they fully support DotNetNuke.  How? DotNetNuke relies heavily upon its settings in the web.config file which are settings considered to be non-standard by 1and1.  Go figure...

I ended up going with a dedicated server through a different hosting company.
