I was having a similar issue. I created a page called Login and Register to create custom pages. I changed to use these pages in Admin-->Site Settings-->Page Management. I then discovered that the custom register control does not adhere to custom registration form options so I killed the pages and reset to in Page Management. Upon clicking login or register, I kept getting redirected to my home page. I had to add ctl=Login to be able to get in.
I tried for over an hour making sure LoginTabId=NULL and so on before I ended up removing the deleted pages from the Recycle Bin before I was able to get the default login and register pages to show up again.

When we turned off "Allow Popups", the Login and Register buttons simply brought up BLANK home pages. It seems no default Login and Register pages are defined in DNN 6.2.2. Maybe it is assumed that people will use the popups (which do work well). To allow us to login to the site, we went into the database portal table and set Allow Popups to "True". Then restarted the webserver to refresh the site. We could then login using the popup as before. We then created a custom login page and added the login module and then pointed the Admin/Login drop down to this. It now works. However when we tried to create a custom Register page, we found there was no Register Module available to put onto the page. Also, if you type in [domainName]/register.aspx, you get a blank page with no Register fields. In DNN 6.2.1 this is not the case. Everything works as expected . . . so something appears to have changed in 6.2.2.
