Hello: After upgrading the site from 3.X to 4.0.3, users including admin and host cannot login to the portal, the rest of the portal shows up just fine. "Email password" doesn't work either which used to work preupgrade. No real issues during upgrade except that I had to install .net 2.0 along with existing 1.1. Configured ISAPI filters to use 2.0, and web.config to use a SQL 2000 existing database. Appreciate any suggestions to troubleshoot this issue

thx! sd

Thanks for the reply, I restored the old keys, in the previus version of web.config the keys were in appsettings, but look slike I need to have node now. In the old web.config
I had both

as well as

not sure why and how, now with 4.0.3 in order to even make the page to load up correctly, I just needed to have
validationKey="**removed by moderator to for security reasons**"
decryptionKey="**removed by moderator to for security reasons**" validation="SHA1"/>

In the aspnet_membership table all my users were to passwordFormat=2 which I guess means Hashed. Still I cannot get in either as host or admin to do anything, I am willing to change passwords, however I nede the correct way to do this, I guess I might have to change password and passwordSalt, as well as change the passwordformat to 1 and assign it a clear password etc.

desperate to get this going again...
Thanks
Sd

Sd,

as long as you do not change encryption keys nor encryption method it should work ok. Otherwise register a new user, keep his password in mind, enter the database and copy password and password salt to your own account.
