I have exported a portal template from my development box  and created a new portal on my production site with it. Naturally none of the content came over even though I checked the box to include content. So, I thought I'd just export each module's content individually. I can export content okay (that is, it creates the file). However,  when I go to the module on my production site, the menu items Import / Export Content are not listed in the module's menu (e.g., in my core HTML modules).  Any idea why they are missing? Thanks, Joan

First I didn't think that it is the best solution to use the Portal templates to transfering a Portal from one server to a other.   Copy the original files to the production server and adding the corect URL to the Portal alises before backup the database and then restore the database on the production server is the easy way.

Content of modules are only copied if you also checked the "copy with content" checkbox but without the content where the Module didn't support the iPortable.

With restore the database you have the completed data copied, and you have the same environment as on your test or work environment.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough. I was importing the portal into an existing dnn instance, so doing a db backup/restore wasn't an option. Regarding the content, I'm pretty sure the core HTML module supports IPortable? If so, then the content didn't get copied over as it should have (yes, I checked the box to include content). I ended up just copy/pasting the missing content into my production site, but it's still disconcerting that the content didn't get ported over as it should have. That tells me not to spend too much time putting content into my development site in the future. Joan

The created templates I think (not sure) have also the portalID, userID, moduleID ect. included from the original portal, so some settings could be in conflict with the import on a other portal.

As I mentioned I am not sure, about I never have need it to use.

The HTML module does suport IPortable. Please answer the following questions:

1. From what DNN version are you exporting?
2. Into what DNN version are you trying to import?
3. Lgin to the DNN instance into which you are trying to import and navigate to Host --> Extensions. Click on the edit pencil beside the Html module extension. Is there a checkmark beside Is Portable?
4. Is the DNN instance into which you are trying to import an upgrade of a an earlier version? If so, do you recall any upgrade errors relating to either invalid or missing XML node or attempt to add duplicate keys to a collection?
5. Do any other modules which are supposed to support IPortable in the DNN instance into which you are trying to import display their Import/Export menu items?
