I have come across an issue with the DNN breadcrumb skin object when used in conjunction with the Store module, described below. Can anyone tell me if they have found a way round this, please.

If you have the store configured to use a separate page to display Product Details, and the skin for that page uses the breadcrumb skin object, the link for the product detail page shows a straightforward link to the page, and not a Url with the necessary parameters to show the current page, as it should do.

For example, at a product detail page with the following url:

~/Products/ProductDetail/tabid/320/CategoryID/1/ProductID/2/Default.aspx

if you click on the last breadcrumb entry, it takes you to a blank page, at the following url:

~/Products/ProductDetail.aspx

Has anyone come across this and found a workaround?

This is due to the fact that the breadcrumb is linking to the root of the page.  The only solution I have seen done before is for people to use a customized breadcrumb object that doesn't render the last link as a hyperlink, espcially since the current page really doesn't need a hyperlink anyway.

Or you could modify the object to properly link to the current location if you wanted.

Thanks for your reply Mitchel,

I agree: the last link isn't really needed as you're already on that page. I can't think of any situation in which it adds usability or other value. At the very least, it would be helpful if they breadcrumb had a property to suppress that last link when not required.

Hey Paul,
I am just getting started with dnn / store module.
Could you please guide me on how to configure the store to use a separate page to display Product Details?
And also, if i have to display additional pics and features of product, how to add them to the detail page (any module?)

Appreciate your help

Hi 007,

Please follow this steps to display the product detail on a separate page:
  1. Create a page and uncheck the visible setting because this page should not be listed in the DNN menu.
  2. Place the Store Catalog module and go to the module settings.
  3. Expand the Catalog Settings section.
  4. In the General Setings section uncheck all checkbox, but leave checked: Show Product Detail and Enable Image Caching.. You can display some other product sections (featured, new, ...), but the more important is to uncheck Enable Content Indexing! Please click on each question mark to the left for details.
  5. Expand the Product Detail Settings section and select the Catalog page for the Return To setting.
  6. Save your settings.
  7. Return to the Catalog page.
  8. Go to the Store Catalog module settings.
  9. Expand the Category Product Settins section.
  10. Select the detail page for the Detail Page setting.
  11. Save your settings.

Concerning your additionals pics, you could place them in the product description field and use a jQuery script to show them as a carousel as a sample.
