I am working with an event registration module that receives IPN responses from PayPal. The IPN code is not called by PayPal after processing a payment for a PayPal account.

The same code works fine on a different PayPal account that is on a different website (I did not set up the PayPal account on the one that works).

Does something need to be set up in PayPal to tell it to send IPN messages?

I do not understand why it works fine on one account, but the same code does not work with other accounts.

  • I am setting the PayPal account to the PayPal login email address.
  • The module is not in test mode--I can see the PayPal transactions being logged.
  • The PayPal account type is "business".
  • I have not paid PayPal anything (except for the percentage they take off of each transaction).
  • It is on a live site (not an intranet or in development).

Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

P.S.
This issue is not specifically about the DNN Events module. Since Events processes IPN requests, I thought it a relevant question for this forum. Please point me to a different forum if it is inappropriate to post here.

You are probably best posting this on the PayPal developer site. I'd have to do some googling on PayPal IPNs to give you an answer.

The PayPal forums helped me figure it out.

There are two ways to setup IPN.

1. Set it up in your account:

Go to PayPal - login, click on My Account tab, click on profile, click on selling preferences, click on Edit IPN Settings.

2. add the IPN url to your PayPal transaction. For Web Payments Standard use a hidden field called notify_url as described here https://www.x.com/docs/DOC-1332

I am using method #2. My "notify_url" was messed up.
