As a result of testing against a large dataset of events, (something like 80,000), we are going to make a couple of changes to the module. One for version 5.0.2, and one for 5.1.0:-

  • 5.0.2 - EVT-10206 - Performance improvements - in particular in the way the module retrieves stats about the number of recurrences of an event
  • 5.1.0 - EVT-10199 - Provide a mechanism for the admin to limit the number of recurrences of an event that are added. This is because all recurrences add a record to the database since v5.x, which has the potential if users are careless to generate massive volumes (e.g. if a daily event for 100 years is added)

Just as a fyi against the 5.0.2 change. One change already coded has reduced the load time for the 80k data set from timing out to running in under a second!

Good to know. We use many recurring events, and sometimes loading a page with a number of events in list view can take a very long time.

Is this a DB change?  If so, can you send it to me?  My site has only 400 entries but is continuing to time out...this only started to happen when I added 2 recurring events (each weekly) that end in 2012
