Are you looking for a list of events? When you say first page, do you mean the home page of your site, or something else? Just trying to understand your requirement. Have you tried using the list view, and just configuring it to show the current day?

Put an instance of the module on your home page, then use the sub-calendar settings to include the instance where you are entering the events. Then configure the module to display in list mode only, and configure the list view settings to show only the current day (I forget what settings you need to set exactly, but you can configure the number of days before and after 'today').

I don't think you can show the image in version 4.0.2. In version 5.0.0, you should be able to add the image to the list view description template. Bear in mind that 5.0.0 is not a production release as yet.
