Hello,

Is there a way to create more than one parent blog within a single portal?

Here is my specific situation:

I would like to create two separate blogs on my site, say Blog ABC and Blog XYZ. Both of the blogs need to be totally independent with no shared content.

Currently, when I add a blog module to an empty page, it shows the 'Create My Blog' link and allows me to create the first parent blog. But as soon as I create the first (parent) blog then that link disappears and I am unable to add another parent blog. Only way I can accomplish the functionality I want is by creating Blog ABC first and then by adding Blog XYZ as a child blog to the parent blog (i.e. Blog ABC).

Please let me know whether this is the built-in limitation or if there is a way around this.

Thank you,

Naushad.

Hi Naushad,

you need to know two mayor limits about the core Blog module:

  1. The content is shared all around the portal. This means that all the instances of the blog module within the same portal will display the same blogs and posts.
  2. At the moment only one blog per user is allowed.

Said this, you will need to create an user account for each blog you want to manage. If you want different modules on different pages to display only posts from one blog each, you can use the Personal Blog Page option under Blog Module Options. Let me know if you need further help in this.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

I would be great if when selecting a blog as a Personal Blog Page there was also an option to exclude this blog from a page with <Not Specified> set.

Hi BarryS,

at the moment we are developing an even more powerful aggregation, that will make this option work at its best. Having the ability to organize all the blogs under an n-level structure will make much easier to decide "what display, and where".

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

That's great Dario ! It sounds like you are really taking this module forward. Thanks  for the update and all your efforts.
