I created a module by using DotNetNuke template starter kit. I put a text box and a button to View control, then put following code Textbox1.Text="Hello Word" on Click's event of the button. After that I packaged this module and installed it to use. When I login by host user, I clicked on the button, Hello World message appeared on the text box, but when I logout, I tried to click on the button once again, there's nothing happen. I don't know why? Anyone can help me to explain and resolve this problem? Thank you very much.

You'll need to turn caching off on the module. If you go to the module settings for the module it probably has a value other than 0. When logged in with host/admin you won't get the cache issues.

Thanks Chris, I did it. And could you explain we need cache time for what?

Module caching is used to improve performance of DNN. There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • module caching is only done for anonymous users
  • the actual html output of the module is cached, which means that if the module gets displayed from cache, none of the module code will actually run
  • you can denie module caching for modules that do not support it by changing the default cache time in module definitions for that module to -1
  • you can also add a cachetime node to your dnn file (under the module node), and give that the value of -1, that way, dnn will never allow caching for that module. That would look something like this:

    ....
          <modules>
            <module>
              <friendlyname>MyModule</friendlyname>
              <cachetime>-1</cachetime>
              <controls>
    ....
