I letf one step out of my last post. After unzipping the Source zip file to the directory called Store, I created a website called DotNetNuke_2 and pointed it to the Store directory.

I don't know if this is the way it was intended to be setup, but I am able to open the solution file without a problem.

Good luck!

Hi,

You MUST use VS 2005 Pro with SP1. This is a requirement because the Store module use the WAP model. The free versions (express) of VS do not allow you to modify a WAP project.

It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Yes, the problem was about trying to open it with the VS Express edition... But isn't here some unlogical thing? To open and develop on a free open source store component, developed on a free open source framework, you need to have a paid software? Shouldn't there be a version that could be opened on a free IDE?

Thanks.

Hi Hélder,

I do not believe that's unlogical for many reasons. Firstly, when the Store module project started, VS Express did not exist and VS 2003 was used. Secondly, you must consider that it is about a huge module. In fact, the solution contains 22 projects and tens of controls. Moreover, I believe that it would be very difficult, even impossible, to convert this project to the WSP model. It will be to long to explain here the pro and cons about WSP vs WAP. You can find valuable articles about WSP (Web Site Project) vs WAP (Web Application Project), like this one from Microsoft and this other one from Rick Strahl.

In France, we have a proverb which says: "One cannot have the butter AND the money for the butter" (my translator give me "One cannot have your cake and eat it"). I understand your frustration, but it is always difficult to satisfy the greatest number.

Dont confuse developing open souce applications, with the applications themself.  You might was well thank microsoft on this one for providing you with a free development IDE (vsexpress), because thats the new variable in the equation.

And the answer to your questions is NO, the more you know the more you know the answer is no.
