I'm getting ready to build another website DNN 4.5.5 (actually build a better one in ASP.NET 2.0 and shut down my current ASP.NET 1.1 site) and wanted to know which database I should build it from. If I remember correctly when I started my DNN 3 site I had three choices for databases, My SQL4, My SQL5, MS SQL 2000, and MS SQL 2005. Which one do I use and why are there so many choices.  Any help would be great!

Mike,

With DNN 4.5.5 out of the box SQL Server is the only supported database engine.  (2000, MSDE, 2005, and 2005 Express are all supported).

Which actual engine you put it on depends on your budget, project size and available resources.

Hummm... I run a website for a fire dept, which will have a lot of images, member's section has lots of documents and we're going to begin putting video files up for viewing. I use CrystalTech and they give me the choice on which database I would like to use. I'm just not sure if one is better then the other or if one has certain things about it that wouldn't be best for for DNN 4.5.5 Thanks again.

Mike,

I am personally using 2005 for all of my sites.  Is there anything that DNN itself benefits from?  Most likely not, but i figure it saves the migration later!  If you are on a hosted server it doesn't really matter as mucha s they are taking care of the licensing.
