Michelle, the files should go directly to the root of your account. I never did install the value add install so i'm not sure if you need to delete all the files or "uninstall" that if godaddy will let you.  The way I did it was with everything totally clean. No files on the root no database no value add installs. I'm not saying it has to be done like this and Michael can give you some more info, but when all else fails... a clean slate is your best bet.

Robirt.

Robirt, do you think you could post or send me the files you used to install DotNetNuke successfully (without any sensitive data ofcourse)
Thank you

Thanks Robirt, I am sure it is something I am doing with my FTP program.  I will experiment with a couple of different options.  Which FTP did you use to upload yours?  I am using FileZilla.  As I have said in previous posts, I am a real newbie here!  I have had our value application copy of DNN up for several months and it has gotten quite large, so I really hate to even create my own copy, but I am looking at the future and the option of upgrading and/or fixing minor problems both of which are non existent at this point.

Here is the link to our site www.brazoshomeschoolers.org/dotnetnuke if you want to take a look.

Thanks again!
Michelle

i am having trouble understanding how exactly godaddy installs its value software.  the install of dnn worked just fine and i can login as an admin and change stuff and set it all up.  however, the issue is that i can not directly access the folder or file through ftp or http.  when i do try to access it through ftp the folder (which is dnn in my /username directory) it appears to not exist.

i tried to set permissions on it, but there appears to be no way to set permissions on a currently existing directory.  or is there, and if so how?

my biggest issue is that i really don't like having to write a redirect in my index.html that goes about 5 directories deep (http://www.mydomain.info/dnn/Home/tabid/53/Default.aspx).  is there any way to move the default.aspx and all necessary files to my root?

thanks for any help!  (sorry for not reading every post in this thread, but i did read the first 5 pages of the 22 and it all seemed to be about installing manually and i'm not confident about that route).

supercat1:

A few months back I started down the path of trying to use the value softwawre from GoDaddy. What I discovered was that, for security reasons, they would not give me access to the files. They were installed outside of my area of access. Numerous calls to their support line did no good, most of them didn't even know why I couldn't see the files. I finally talked to someone that knew what DNN was, and they explained that they wouldn't grant access to the files. Sounds like that is still happening. The other thing I noticed was that the value software installation didn't even setup a SQL database (unless it was also outside of my hosting plan where I could not see it, or administer it). I'm not sure if that is still a problem, but I decided that I would need both a database and file access to manage my site.
