Does anyone know if you can have a Flash Intro on a DNN 3.X site? It's something I would like to do but wasn't sure if you could. Thanks all.

Why don't you just place your flash intro in the root of the site and then when it finishes have them click into the main site or automatically go at end of the movie

Create a page, set your flash intro on it, set it as a Splash page under Site Settings.

Two problems - you can't have that page automatically forward to the home page without making your own cnages - a redirect modele or Flash redirect at the end of intro or ENTER SITE link. Second problem - clicking logo will take users to that page. I consider it a logical bug. But... that's what it is. Again, you can avoid it if you can set a cookie inside Flash intro that says that it was viewed once already - or something similar to that.

I actually would like to hear how other people handle this - such a common web design technique nowadays...

I have the following suggestions:

1) Don't use a Flash intro page...it is almost universally reviled by users and besides it's passé. But...

2) ...if you still want it, you can create a skin template that has the following code:

<div id="ContentPane" runat="server" />
<!-- Your Flash code -->

Assign this skin template to any page of your site and then set that page as the value of Splash Page (under Admin -> Site Settings). The page will render with nothing but the Flash intro and work as you expect a splash page to work.

I have to agree with Nik on #1, not to mention unless properly massaged with sitemap.xml a flash intro will completely hose your SEO. Many times, a client will think what they want is a flash intro page, but if you just drop in some small, subtle flash components (image rotators, embedded video, animations, etc) they will usually be quite happy. As jaded as it may sound sometimes we need to assert our experience to help guide the client in the right direction.
