DotNetNuke 6.2 includes messaging as a first-class extension point with a rich API, allowing developers to utilize, override, and extend its behavior in a number of interesting ways. In this session we explore the architecture of this area of the framework, discuss several approaches outlining how the subsystem might be extended to introduce novel functionality, and identify the tradeoffs between various modes of extension (e.g. adaptation, decoration). Finally, we identify and demonstrate some approaches that a developer might utilize to affect changes in behavior for messaging and notifications in third-party modules.
