New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

New Release: dnnCHAT v01.00.00 now available

Earlier this year I started on a project to learn how to use SignalR, I had reasons to do so for my full time job (non-DNN related) but considering my DNN experience over the past 11 years I figured that learning how to use SignalR with DNN would be my fastest way to get myself up to speed. So I started working on a Chat module. Originally that module was called SignalRChat, and was available on codeplex, but ultimately I decided that name kind of sucked, so it needed to be something else.

In comes the DNN Chat module project, there was a Chat module for DNN long ago, but the last official release of it was in 2008, and while there was a Beta in 2010, it hadn't seen any development and work in years. So I approached DNNCorp about taking over the DNN Chat project and replacing it with my newly developed module, at the same time, going from "DNN Chat" to "dnnCHAT".

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

The one constant in life is that there are no constants in life; Unless of course you count Pi, or Planck’s constant or the speed of light; but I digress. Everything around us is in a constant state of change. For many people, life changes can be very stressful.  In fact, the mental health profession has long regarded the most stressful times in a persons life is when they are undergoing dramatic change. This is not necessarily a bad thing, since many of these stressful events are also some of most joyful events in our lives.  Leaving home to go to college, getting married, the birth of a child and starting a new job are all stressful events that often lead to great reward and satisfaction.

This summer has seen DNN undergo a number of significant changes.  We changed our branding, completely rebuilt the DNN website, launched Evoq in the Cloud, and released DNN 7.1. These are not the only changes that have occurred.  Even as we have been making outward facing changes to our products and our business, we have also been making changes under the covers to improve the operation of our product and engineering teams and to improve our ability to interact with the community.

Official DNN Training at DNNCon Palm Beach 2013 this October

The most common issues and questions that I come across on a daily basis are very often a result of not knowing the DNN Platform as well as it could be known.  Like with any tool, the better you know it, how to manipulate it, the best techniques... Continue Reading »

Wanted: volunteers!

October 18 and 19 marks the dates of the next DNNCon (previously known as Day of DotNetNuke). This event will be held in West Palm Beach, Florida, which may be risky business, being that it is still inside the hurricane season. However, this year’s hurricanes have not been happening so far, so let’s hope that will also be true for October!

This Open Source Thing is Cool. How Can I Help? An op-ed.

I can think of two reasons why you’d be a DNN Platform addict. Either you think it’s an awesome tool to make some money or you think you can make some money using this. I’m kidding. There is a second group. Those that itch to work on something bigger than they would otherwise be able to work on, together with some of the sharpest programming minds on the planet. Obviously I’m not excluding you’re here for both reasons. But the focus of this post is on the second group. Those that have been bitten by the Open Source bug. Continue Reading »

How DNN Changed My Life - (part 3)

Am I Dreaming? Somebody pinch me…

While constantly searching out new clients and looking for full-time employment, I was typically receiving around 10-20 emails per day for job offers from every placement agency and headhunter within a 100 mile radius of San Francisco, and even recruiters calling me from Atlanta and beyond (India). I was used to my morning ritual of reviewing…. deleting… reviewing… deleting… reviewing… deleting… the multitude of poorly matched job offerings that were being sent regularly to fill up my inbox. One day, everything changed. I received a message, that at a glance appeared to be just another typical recruitment email from someone in the Silicon Valley… I was somewhat surprised to see the words “Career Opportunity at DotNetNuke” in the subject line. I was SURE it was just another recruiting agency soliciting their services, or asking me to submit my resume for a post I was either way under qualified for, or way over qualified for, very common at that time.
