About

New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

DNNCon Baltimore, April 1-2, 2016

DNNCon is an informal, community-organized event that is put together by DNN users just like you. Everyone from developers to users participate, share ideas, and get to know each other at this event. New Module Development Templates for DNN8

With the release of DNN Platform 8 last week it is now possible to develop modules using SPA and MVC patterns within the DNN platform. As Part of the buildup of the DNN 8 release, Will Strohl provided a Pull request to my DNN Extension Project Templates project to help clean up some of the basic module templates to work better on Windows Azure environments, and to prep them for inclusion of new DNN 8 specific templates for SPA and MVC modules.

Early in the fall Joe Brinkman provided a partial SPA project, with the intention of it becoming a project template. I had a little time when it was initially submitted to work on it, but wasn’t able to get everything squared away on the template until early December. It wasn’t until last week that I got additional time to do further testing on the template and fix a few issues that occurred during the conversion to a project template.

Visual Studio AppInsights module for DNN

DNNLovesAppInsightsAs a website developer or operator, I always need to know if my site goes down and get an alert, verify if the site is performing well or if it is under an attack. There are lot of tools today to give you an insight on what is happening on your web deployment, and one I’m using more and more is Visual Studio Application Insights.
While AppInsights is still a “Preview” service (note that preview means that is not generally available, so no SLA is offered yet), you can start from a Free tier that probably fits the majority of small websites, and optionally start paying depending on the amount of telemetry data you send to the store. This gives to you a powerful insight and tools to operate, diagnose and fix issues immediately.

Perfect WYSIWYG for DNN/2sxc #1 - Evaluation Overview

The built-in telerik editor is going away (thank God!) and the CK Editor is supposed to be the new one, but honestly it looks terrible - and IMHO it's not good enough. Time to look around and smell the roses…

DNN Hangout - December 2016 - Module Development from a Skinner’s Perspective

While this is nearly a month late in getting posted, the show isn’t any less important.  Not by a longshot.  In fact, it’s one of my favorite episodes we’ve ever done.  In this show, we speak with Ralph Williams.  If you’ve been a... Continue Reading »
