New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

DNN on Google Cloud

As fresh as paint - DNN powered by Google - on the same infrastructure that returns billions of search results in milliseconds, serves 6 billion hours of YouTube videos per month and provides storage for more than 425 million Gmail users. Give it a try, it is pretty cool: https://developers.google.com/cloud/

Gartner pointed out in early 2013, the public cloud market was about to grow by 18.5%. We all know that the cloud computing market is changing rapidly. We talked about running the DNN Platform on AWS at DNN Connect 2014. There are several ways to boost your DNN by using leading cloud technology such as load balancer as serviceglobal failover webserver and CDN edges. High performance DNN is much more than just database or web server optimization. You must also keep an eye on client performance: browser rendering speed, content delivery as well as latency are to be named here.

Let’s focus a bit on the available resources on the market - go ahead and check the free reprint of Gartner’s 2014 Cloud IaaS Magic Quadrant. When you compare it with the version from 2013 you will notice that more or less surprisingly Google shows up for the first time. Google has offered their App Engine since 2008. Also, don't forget about their role as one of the leading SaaS (software as a service) vendors with the products Gmail or Google Apps.
But what has happened recently? Google announced the general-availability of Google Compute Engine (GCE) inDecember 2013. Google stepped in! Here they are on the IaaS market.

DNN on Google: CPU utilization

That’s reason enough to think about how DNN as a platform can benefit from Google as a massive player. To run the typical DNN environment (Windows, IIS, MS SQL) on Googles services, a Google Account and the so called “Premium Operating Systems” is all you need.
Add Google Cloud Storage to synchronize your DNN between different web servers. And to add some more fun, also include the Page Speed Service. It delivers your whole optimized DNN web site from the Google Data Center or edge-location that is closest to the user (in terms of latency). CSS and JS gets minified and images get resized. If you want, even lazy loading can be added. Nice!

DNN in Google Cloud Storage
We published a hands on manual for a simple “DNN on AWS” scenario some months ago. Unfortunately, it’s not yet the time for a similar posting for GCE because some functions are in their very early stages (beta, preview, etc.). Some of them even require a Linux or Unix based OS. But definitely yes: as of today you can run DNN on Google’s infrastructure and benefit from some of their game changing cloud services.

Want to see it? Perhaps the first DNN completely served from the Google Cloud: http://dnnon.google.play.itm.net [DNN 7.3.0 beta as of 2014-06-11]
